Background

India will achieve net zero emissions by 2070 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi committed a timeline to ensure India's net carbon dioxide emissions would be zero at the COP26 summit in Glasgow on 1st November 2021. Today, India ranks 4th in the world in installed renewable energy capacity. India's non-fossil fuel energy has increased by more than 25% in the last 10 years and now it has reached 40% of our energy mix.

To become a net zero nation by 2070, India needs a capital investment of $10 trillion. That requires making sustainable finance available to developed and developing countries because sustainable finance can only promote transition towards greener, resilient and inclusive economies. It would also require unprecedented amounts of new technology innovations and deployment and given the scale of investments required, government and concessional funding alone would not be sufficient. Innovative financing models need to be adopted for attracting private investment into the market and bridging the funding gap.

Net Zero Summit 2024

Net Zero Summit 2024 is being organised on the theme 'India's Energy-Transition Pathways: A Net-Zero Perspective on 30th May 2024' at Hotel Eros, Nehru Place, New Delhi. The event presents a vibrant, inclusive and high-impact platform to meet and collaborate for meaningful policy dialogues, showcase innovations and accelerate partnerships for a common goal of achieving a decarbonized Economy for India by 2070. This conference aims to explore innovative strategies, technologies, and policies to achieve these ambitious targets. This forum would like to explore the concept of Net-zero and its importance in addressing environmental, social, and economic challenges and bring all the constituents of the clean energy value chain under one roof, towards the common objective of a clean and green tomorrow.

Major Highlights

The conference will discuss the steps needed to create a robust ecosystem for energy transition focusing on clean energy opportunities, signifying their impact on economic development and environment sustainability. The conference will also discuss the key pillars of India's energy transition, building blocks, the possible pathways and recommendations to achieve our climate ambitions and provide recommendations for stimulating actions required to overcome impediments to clean energy growth in India. The event will also provide a platform to government representatives, innovators and other stakeholders to scale action and solutions.
